about the paintings

Much of my work is an exploration of elemental forces in nature.

I’m interested in the tension and precarious balance of contradictory elemental forces: heaviness vs weightless buoyancy, contraction vs unfurling.
In the paintings, forms emerge and recede, float weightlessly and are counterbalanced by the pull and tug of gravity.

Inspiration for these paintings comes from forms in the natural world – the quiet of undersea world, a precariously stacked cairn of stones, an eclipse, a butterfly’s wing, flowing seaweed.
